It's amazing what's hidden in plain sight.
I was in the Ann St Library today looking through the collection while waiting for a meeting to start. Any of you who have been there will know of the large photo montage of the first team of Grand Officers for UGLQ in 1921.
I must have looked this pic a hundred times, but always when I've been distracted or in a rush. Your eyes tend to focus on MW Bro Corrie and the heavyweights in the centre of the group. Today I took the time to look at every picture.
To my surprise and delight two of our Lodge St George Founding Members were part of that original GO cohort.
Dr (later Professor) Thomas Harvey Johnson was our first SW and came to us from Lodge Fernberg 1091 SC. He was an academic from UQ, was part of the team that eradicated the prickly pear in Australia and went to the Antarctic with Douglas Mawson on his later expeditions.
Dr Frederick George Butler-Wood was also a founding member. He was a well respected dentist in Brisbane and the Foundation Master of Lodge Aberleigh 1133 SC. He actually opened the casual lodge on the day of our consecration and welcomed Thomas Burstow, Grand Master of Scottish Freemasonry in Queensland, to take the Chair and carry out the Ceremony of Consecration on3 July 1915.
It shows that we had a commitment to supporting Grand Lodge as ceremonial officers from the very start of UGLQ.
